Dr. Raju Vatsavai

Invited Talk: Ontology and Semantics in Very High-Resolution Image Information Mining

Dr. Raju is a Chancellor’s Faculty Excellence Program Cluster Associate Professor in Geospatial Analytics in the Department of Computer Science, North Carolina State University (NCSU). He works at the intersection of spatial and temporal big data management, analytics, and high performance computing with applications in the national security, geospatial intelligence, natural resources, climate change, location-based services, and human terrain mapping. As the Associate Director of the Center for Geospatial Analytics (CGA), Raju plays a leadership role in the center’s strategic vision for spatial computing research. Before joining NCSU, Raju was the Lead Data Scientist for the Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Raju has more than 25 years of research and development experience in large-scale spatiotemporal data management and geographic knowledge discovery.

Dr. Chaitanya Baru

Invited Talk: Open Knowledge Network: An NSF Convergence Accelerator Pilot

Dr. Chaitanya Baru is Senior Science Advisor in the Convergence Accelerator Office, Office of the Director, NSF, having earlier served as an Expert for the Convergence Accelerator from April to August 2019. He is at NSF on assignment from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC), University of California, San Diego. He previously served at NSF, as Senior Advisor for Data Science in the Computer and Information Science and Engineering Directorate (CISE), from August 2014-2018. Dr. Baru has worked on translational and applied research in computer science and data science at SDSC since 1996, where he has served in a number of leadership positions. He previously worked at IBM—on IBM’s DB2 Parallel Edition for AIX development team and, prior to that, was on the faculty of the EECS Department, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He has an ME and PhD in Electrical Engineering (Computer Engineering) from the University of Florida and a BTech in Electronics Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
