Session VII: Ontology Design Patterns

Abstract:

The use of patterns and modules in ontology engineering has been gaining traction in many different domains. However, these attempts have been largely isolated from each other. We see uses of patterns in the life sciences or industrial settings. However, there has been little work done in identifying patterns that cut across domains. Further, we find that the language, purposes, and usage of patterns can drastically differ across these domains. We propose a two slot, break-out style session, Identifying Cross Domain Ontology Design Patterns, that aims to bring together domain experts from academia and industry to collaboratively identify ontology design patterns that span multiple domains.
